Wine Bar 1 week, 1 day agoThe other day I bought a case of Two Buck Chuck, otherwise known as Charles Shaw Cabernet. Trader Joe’s used to sell it for $2. I think it’s now something like $2.65 a bottle. While it’s not the best wine, it’s okay. I’d say it’s as okay as the wine most people drink every day in Europe. And this means a non rich person can afford to have…[Read more]

Just returned from another run up and down the Oregon coast. I need to get back to Italy where I’d like to start or complete a few projects. And then there’s Spain. I feel a little overwhelmed by Spain. It’s not the kind of place you can drop in for ten days and get out. I hope to get to Cuba one day, but I don’t want to be on a tour.

I remember hearing that too. Here’s the story now: He didn’t have much schooling as a child in the town of Vinci, so he taught himself to write. There was no school master around to slap his wrists for doing it “wrong.” I bet growing up this way ultimately enhanced his creativity and inventiveness.

Probably not. However, they’re saying they were aware that Batman creator Bob Kane’s inspiration for the caped crusader included leonardo’s drawings of the flying machines with bat-like wings. So, there’s a connection. Sort of.

I think he probably was. He did write left-handed, reversing the text and writing down the lines from the right margin to the left so that he would not have to drag his hand across the wet ink.
-
We learned in art history that he wrote backwards as a way to code his work against artistic thieves. But the simplicity of not smearing wet ink makes more sense!

I poked around on the Starz site talking about the series. Other episodes will acknowledge Leonardo’s bisexuality.
Although not a credible bio-pic, I really like the look of this video comic book story set in the Italian Renaissance. A Batman-like tale with a winged crusader defending the Florentine Republic. Sorry I won’t be seeing future…[Read more]

Is this series based on that comic that you mentioned a few months back?

Oh wait, he’s shown in another scene drawing left-handed. They’ve made him ambidextrous. Now I have egg on my face. This is the risks of live blogging.

Wasn’t Leonardo ambidextrous?

Watching Da Vinci’s Demons from Starz. Couldn’t the actor at least pretend to draw left-handed?. #arthistory.

I have not been able to see it from the usual freeway approaches.
I wish they’d bring back the Beatnik driftwood sculptures on the mud flats. I really miss seeing those.
-
I heard recently that Emeryville is going to allow limited mudflat sculptures, but I haven’t seen any go up yet. Nor do I know details. I should probably google.
I used to love those too! I think everybody did.

He also did the soundtrack for “Battlestar Galactica” (my personal favorite) and “The Walking Dead”.
