I shoot everything in RAW and archive in RAW. takes under a minute to convert to JPEG. I also carry two 64 GB flash cards when I travel and have 32GB flash cards and another 64 GB on the iPad plus a 1TB portable HD so no storage problems even if I am doing video.

Writers tend to not carry so much tech when they travel.

I think that post production editing is just another artistic tool and to some degree makes the photographer more of a painter because the photographer can now control their color pallet. However, it has to be done right or the images look fake. I don’t care if they replace the sky as long as it looks real, painters do this all the time.

Then why not paint instead of manipulate?

Having studied and worked in both painting and photography, I find that manipulating photographs is not like painting at all …

But you know what else I let make me edgy? Flipping photographs. I hate it when I see a photograph (usually with a person in it) where they are looking to the right in one…[Read more]

Well because photography has changed. It used to be that planning and production(including printing) were the important things but with digital post production is just as important. It doesn’t really matter though it is just different. If an image is good then do we care if it was photoshopped, does it really matter?

Well, it depends. It matters to me if an image represents somewhere I’d like to travel to. Expectations come from the images I see ahead of my travels, I’m sure that other people, even on a subconscious level, make travel decisions based on the prior landscape or monument images they see of the destination.

I think the bigger question is, does a…[Read more]
