Kimberly Kradel | Lead artist-at-large

artist-at-large is a tag line that was given to Kimberly Kradel (aka: kimba) by friends in the days after art school, at a time when she moved to California via a Greyhound bus with only ten dollars in her pocket.

The early days in California found her roaming the coastline, living in an old '68 VW bus, keeping journals and basically getting into everybody's business. These days she's traded in the '68 for The Escape Pod - a more reliable '71 Vdub - and is much more of a voyeur, relying on the sights, sounds and tastes of a place to gain her experience.

After graduating as a photography major from Ivy School of Professional Art in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she went on to study for her B.A. in Studio Art/Painting, while dabbling in French and German as well as Congolese Dance and Drum, at Sonoma State University in California.

Always an artist first, for the last twenty-odd years she has kept her painting studio alive by supporting herself in the world of day jobs, in whatever would pay the rent and buy art supplies. She worked for a number of years in publishing, for such venerable travel houses as Lonely Planet and Ulysses Press and on the American editions of the Virago Woman's Guides to Paris and Rome and started out working in tech when the Internet opened up in 1995. As a Quality Assurance Engineer she has tested web sites, network protocols, and hardware functionality.

Her first trip was to France and Italy in 1986 for about five months and now she travels when ever her savings account will allow for it.

Developing and producing artist-at-large.com has given kimba the opportunity to combine all of her interests and talents - art, travel, writing, photography, and tech - in one place.

She is now working full-time on producing artist-at-large.com and in the studio her focus is not only painting but also photography and writing.
