Privacy Policy

The privacy of our visitors to artist-at-large.com is important to us.

At artist-at-large, we recognize that privacy of your personal information is important. Here is information on what types of personal information we receive and collect when you use and visit artist-at-large, and how we safeguard your information. We never sell your personal information to third parties.

Tracking

We don’t directly track your presence on this website. Your IP address is logged and we look regularly at the server logs, but this is in an aggregate fashion for the purpose of determining why people come to artist-at-large. What we’re most interested in specifically are two things: The websites that link to artist-at-large and send traffic here, and what keywords people use to find artist-at-large via search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

Links and comments

If you leave a link in a comment, we will probably follow the link. We’re assuming you want us (the folks at artist-at-large and our readers) to find you if you make your contact information easily findable.

Cookies

We may place a text file called a “cookie” in the browser files of your computer if you use a section of the site that requires a login. The cookie itself does not contain personal information although it will enable us to relate your use of this site to information that you have specifically and knowingly provided. But the only personal information a cookie can contain is information you supply yourself. A cookie can’t read data off your hard disk or read cookie files created by other sites. artist-at-large uses cookies in the WordPress blogs when you ask that your login be remembered for the next time you login to the site.

You can choose to disable or selectively turn off our cookies or third-party cookies in your browser settings, or by managing preferences in programs such as Norton Internet Security. However, this can affect how you are able to interact with our site as well as other websites. This could include the inability to login to services or programs, such as logging into forums or accounts. If you’ve set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies, you will receive the warning message with each cookie. You do not need to have cookies turned on to use this site. However, you do need cookies to participate actively in message boards, forums, polling and surveys.

While we are phasing out advertisements on artist-at-large, we do run a few scripts from providers such as Google and other online advertisers. All of these set web browser cookies. Sites such as Google quietly collect a tremendous amount of data on your browsing habits, and by publishing google ads (being phased out), artist-at-large participates in that data collection.

Advertising

We also use third party (affiliate) advertisements on artist-at-large to support our site. Most of these affiliate links can be found on the Travel Resource page. Some of these advertisers may use technology such as cookies and web beacons when they advertise on our site, which will also send these advertisers (such as Google through the Google AdSense program) information including your IP address, your ISP , the browser you used to visit our site, and in some cases, whether you have Flash installed. This is generally used for geo-targeting purposes (showing New York art supply store ads to someone in New York, for example) or showing certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as showing cooking ads to someone who frequents cooking sites).

DoubleClick DART cookies

We also may use DART cookies for ad serving through Google’s DoubleClick, which places a cookie on your computer when you are browsing the web and visit a site using DoubleClick advertising (including some Google AdSense advertisements). This cookie is used to serve ads specific to you and your interests (”interest based targeting”). The ads served will be targeted based on your previous browsing history (For example, if you have been viewing sites about visiting Paris, you may see Paris hotel advertisements when viewing a non-related site, such as on a site about art). DART uses “non personally identifiable information”. It does NOT track personal information about you, such as your name, email address, physical address, telephone number, social security numbers, bank account numbers or credit card numbers. You can opt-out of this ad serving on all sites using this advertising by visiting http://www.doubleclick.com/privacy/dart_adserving.aspx

Deleting cookies does not mean you are permanently opted out of any advertising program. Unless you have settings that disallow cookies, the next time you visit a site running the advertisements, a new cookie will be added.
